More than just news
I think this is HUGE. It means that the criminals in our country, all of them, are subject to arrest and trial at The International Court in the Hague! They now have no place to hide. This also gives me hope that Obama may be wearing two hats. I hope so, but we must still wait to see; however, I can’t imagine him easily signing his own death warrant, can you? In a surprise move, President Obama signed an executive order rejoining the International Criminal Court, an organization established originally by the United State to enforce international law and punish war criminals.
The US left the court under Bush in order to protect those responsible for kidnapping, drug running and torture. They may now be arrested, even if American office holders or members of the military or CIA, which, oddly enough, many of those responsible for such heinous crimes are.
Almost all facing prosecution are, curiously enough, members of the Republican Party and are trying to spin a return to freedom and justice as America giving up rights. The only right sacrificed are the rights some of the 1% and key officials had to murder, rape, steal and run drugs.
They may now be arrested under the same laws that applied to Gaddafi, Saddam and other “war criminals” that America has seen fit to bring to justice.
A careful read of one of the trickiest documents I have ever seen limits arrests of US elected officials as long as they are in office. Language protecting the military is less clear if not clear at all.
In doing so, Obama even puts himself at risk but the risk is far higher to Ashcroft, Gonzales, McCain, Lieberman, Bush (all), Cheney and a list of war criminals who may number in the thousands.
As to how far the ICC is willing to go is questionable. The organization tends to arrest only those of dark skin or targets of American foreign policy.
Perhaps that will change with the Arab Spring and elections in Europe which has gotten rid of some and may eventually remove nearly all the old leaders, most of whom are potential suspects in war crimes.
When we see Interpol put the cuffs on McCain and Lieberman and “perp walk” them out of the Senate, we will know we may get America back.
I agree this could be huge. It would allow "certain" individuals to be arrested and tried. It also must make many wonder just which side of the coin Obama falls on? This is one reason I have stayed on the fence regarding him. As mentioned in the Drake interview we may be surprised at who some of the good guys are!!!
"limits arrests of US elected officials as long as they are in office."
Then how can they get the Bush regime?
I think you will find that law is changed when we go back to common law or admiralty law, but I'm not sure on that. They have already been found guilty in the hague regarding 911. A second trial is going on right now I believe. I'll check into that.
International law is admiralty law. It is the law merchant law or the laws of commerce. It is also known as Roman civil law and the laws of war. All the so called laws we have accepted for many years now are merely corporate policy used against statutory citizens for plunder and pillage of the people.
The common law is simple. Do not harm one of the people, damage their property, or commit fraud. Basically...do no harm. This entire commercial system of admiralty law is built upon fraud and doing harm to the people therefore it flies into the face of the law of the land as fundamentally lawlessness. It is a system of legalized piracy.
Thankyou for the clarification Paul.
My understanding of "the plan" Paul, is that Admiralty Law is being used to address the issues of fraud. When this case is settled there will be civil criminal charges made in the court of Common Law. First we spank them with their own stick than we spank them with ours :)
Part I is to take away their power to play with the global accounts. They are being stripped of their financial capabilities. Part II is to bring them to justice. I like this plan!
Drake teaches that Common Law supercedes Admiralty Law. That little secret may be the final nail in the coffin of financial tyranny. Corporations may become obsolete or at least considered as a thing instead of a person. That silliness has got to stop.
No matter the reason good or bad, I still find Executive Orders repulsive and bypass the constitution. Bush used them and now Obama is using them to bypass congress because they are not with his political party. What happens if Romney is the chosen one. Do we again bypass congress if the Democrats get elected in the house. Congress makes the laws and the President is suppose to enforce them. Not if I don't like the law I just bypass and make my own law and you people will just have to live with it because I am the king.
I absolutely agree ChiliDog it's kind of like playing poker and changing the rules as you go !!
And you think an international criminal court is a good thing?
